10. I think my child needs to see a counsellor, what should I do?
It’s great that you’re recognising your child’s needs and looking for support. At Therapy Begins we specialise in working with children and young adults. We tailor our sessions that are age appropriate for your child and offer play therapy for younger children. We also have experience of working with neurodivergent children. We offer parents/carers an initial 20 min free consultation to discuss your child’s needs, your child can attend this free consultation to reassure them and to make them feel more comfortable with the process
11. Is counselling confidential?
Yes, counselling is generally confidential. At Therapy Begins we follow strict ethical guidelines to protect your privacy, meaning what you discuss in sessions stays between you and the counsellor. However, there are a few exceptions. If you reveal that you or someone else is in immediate danger, such as expressing intent to harm yourself or others, they may be required to break confidentiality to ensure safety. They might also need to disclose information if legally required, such as in cases of child protection or criminal investigations.
At the initial appointment, confidentiality is discussed, if you have any concerns regarding this, please discuss this with your counsellor. Therapy Begins has a confidentiality policy and adheres to the Data Protection Act. Knowing exactly what to expect can make the process feel safer and more supportive
